Oh my god... sweet memories. Of all the N64 games I have, this is one of my favorites. The graphics are crappy and the gameplay is simple and repetitive as hell, but the game is addictive and the music is AWESOME (it definitely sets the mood and the pace and changes every so often). My mom rented this for me many years ago and I played this game so much that I zoned out and beat the final boss with over 100 extra lives. I don't remember who the final boss was or how many levels the game has. I think there were like 200 levels and the last boss was either some yellow or blue guardian, but that was like one of my gaming achievements, lol. The ending sucked if memory serves.

Having not played this game for at least five years, I played it for 30 minutes for this sample and was already hooked back into it. I got to the bonus level and got hit by a bug and thought I died, lol. This game also has an interesting "Co-op" mode where one player moves and the other shoots. The controls for this game are as close to perfect as they're gonna get with the N64 controller; You move with the pad and shoot with the C buttons. Combining C buttons can let you shoot diagonally. There are numerous power-ups and the enemies just get tougher and more numerous. You can also change your view, though I think the default view is best (makes it feel more like classic Robotron: 2084).

Not many people surprisingly know about this Robotron game, though it's met with decent scores. I have Robotron X for Playstation, but I don't quite remember how it was by comparison. One thing I never understood about this game (in the U.S. anyway) is why it's rated "T" for teen :P

Enjoy.
