Robots are eyeing humans' place in the sports arena. The world's first Humanoid Robot Olympics took place in Beijing. Teams pushed boundaries in competitions ranging from athletics tracks to football pitches, and their collaborations shed light on the future of human-robot harmony.
Athletics appears to be the sport where robots are most successful. Unitree Robotics won gold medals in the 1,500-meter, 400-meter, 4x100-meter relay, and 100-meter hurdles. The Tiangong Ultra robot, developed by the Beijing Innovation Center, ran the 100-meter race in 21.50 seconds, taking first place in football. Tsinghua University's Hephaestus team defeated HTWK Robotics + Nao Devils from Germany 1-0 to win the championship. The Humanoid Games, the world's first Robot Olympics, which featured 280 teams from 16 countries participating and a total of 487 competitions in 26 branches, demonstrated the importance of sharing innovation and shared progress beyond competition. It also demonstrated the level of achievement of humanoid robots in terms of both decision-making and coordination skills.
