Yup, you can totally blame Steve Benway for this one. As is so often the case, I'm sure.

And latterly, Mentski, for his flat-out refusal to accept this game even exists.

You really should know already, but Steve's channel is here:

And Mentski's is here:

I'd link to each of Steve's individual Outrun videos but there's far too many for that (There's, like, at least four.)
Oh, go on then, it looks like he's just done Outrun Europa on the Master System. I've not watched it yet, but here's the link:

Meanwhile, Mentski's casual rinsing of the arcade version of Outrun, pretty much on autopilot, as part of his One-Credit-Champ series is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqzPxtmC0tU

I dunno, maybe it's just the C64 version that wasn't absolutely terrible? I recall the Spectrum version was supposed to be great but the released version was markedly different to what had been reviewed (and raved over). I guess there were probably a fair few Spectrum owners who felt like I did after I bought Operation Thunderbolt (which I still haven't faced up to going back to yet) for C64...and I mean, compared to Op Thunderbolt, this is a blimmin' masterpiece. Maybe once I've watched Steve's Master System video I'll get what people are on about.

And if you're wondering where Rescue on Fractalus has got to, it's up next, don't worry. Just thought this one ought to jump the queue a bit. Because, y'know, it's important to be topical and relevant when you're dealing with decades-old games, isn't it? Besides, it's (a form of) OutRun, so it can jump all the queues it wants. Even if it plays more like Chase HQ than OutRun.
