♫ROCK'IN STADIUM (Air Zonk) 8-bit NES Arrangement - NintendoComplete
This is an arrangement of "Rock'in Stadium," the stage 3 BGM from Hudson/TTI's 1992 TurboGrafx-16 game Air Zonk. It has been arranged for native playback on NES hardware.
Air Zonk was one of the best shoot 'em ups ever made for the TurboGrafx-16, which is no small feat considering the quality of the genre's games on the system. The graphics and the gameplay are outstanding, but the thing that always stuck out to me personally was the soundtrack. It's hard to find words for how much I love this game's music, so I thought I'd try my had at covering ones of its songs. The NES's audio hardware certainly didn't have the chops that the Turbo's did, but it has proven capable of doing impossible things so many times before that I saw no reason why not to try this.
Well, except that this was a damned hard track to cover. I certainly understand the NES's vibrato and pitch-bending abilities far better now after doing it! I also now get people's complaints about how difficult it can be to keep everything in tune - the NES certainly loves flat notes!
Oh, and that part at 1:01 has to be one of the coolest random solo moments I've ever heard in a chiptune. It's my favorite part if the entire track :D
This was done in Famitracker using the 2A03+MMC5 expansion chip, and the drum samples were all taken from the original game. The video was pulled from my playthrough of Air Zonk, and if you'd like, you can find that here: https://youtu.be/Q8bm3-bxVDQ
I hope you like it! Please let me know what you think!
