ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 EVA Edition Unboxing and Initial Review #ROGPeripherals

This version is ASUS’s collaboration with Evangelion, and the UI of this is a treat, being a fan of Evangelion as well, it certainly looks like we are in front of an actual A.T Field. Setting up the router took me a couple of minutes using my mobile phone. You can also do this in a browser. There is a quick start screen to follow through in setting up your dual band SSID’s and passwords. After that, waiting for around 45 seconds for the app to setup my network and after a quick network optimization, everything was up and running.
Some of the notable features of this router is that it supports OFDMA which in simple terms, eliminate network congestions that can cause slowdowns in your wifi connections, it supports dual frequencies (2.4 and 5Ghz) and a data rate of up to 6000 Mbps thanks to wifi 6. There are also two 2.5Gbps ports that support link aggregation, one is a flexible WAN/LAN port and the other one is the dedicated gaming port that automatically gives bandwidth priority to the device connected.
Coverage is not a problem as this has RangeBoost Plus that uses the next gen wifi chipset combined with ASUS RF technology. Also, you can have this configured with other mesh topology supported wifi’s as the ones that we have reviewed before as it supports Asus AI mesh.
Gaming features include game devices prioritization, game packet prioritization with game boost, and selecting the shortest path to game server feature, which we are interested to know more.
We also have VPN Fusion, that lets you run a vpn simultaneously with an internet connection, a mobile game mode which lets you optimize your connection for mobile gaming, OpenNAT that has a three step port forwarding which makes port forwarding simple, game first is a gaming tool for players, designed for ASUS ROG products for network optimization and acceleration, and of course a 2.5Gbps dedicated gaming port.
This can also be configured with AI mesh in case you have a mesh setup on your premises.
Given that this is a special edition gaming wifi router, and it has a built in quad core cpu, but honestly the design is what got me sold as I am currently building my own Evangelion build. Too bad it’s not yet done but subscribe to this channel for you to check out the progress of what we are going to do with this build.
Some features that it doesn’t have compared to other products in ASUS’s Rapture Line are the support for Alexa, Let’s encrypt feature that lets you create your own SSL encryption certificate, WTFast support and finally UUboost which are minor additions to ASUS’ next tier Rapture routers.
