Ronin's Retrocade: Suckerpunch Sunday #16 - Pit-Fighter (Genesis/MegaDrive)
Welcome back to Suckerpunch Sunday, where we hit the wayback machine and revisit fighting or fighting/platform-based games from the 'Golden Age' of gaming from 1984-2010!
During the early 90s, EVERY gaming studio was trying to capitalize on the booming fighting game genre started by Street Fighter II, and while some legacy franchises would get their start during this period, there were also plenty of titles that were bad ideas and never got much better with time.
Case in point: Atari's 1990 clunker, 'Pit-Fighter'!
Drawing from virtually every bad trope from every bad B-and-C-grade action/martial arts flicks from the 80s, and combining it with wooden controls, few special features and graphics that would be obsolete within a year, 'Pit-Fighter' proved how desperate studios were to get gamers away from Capcom's juggernaut.
