There's never a simple solution but I hate saying 'experience' to everything. For new people starting out it generally breaks down to getting over yourself, stop finding reasons to not start, and just try it. When you get a feel for things you'll be able to learn and adapt; and you must be WILLING to adapt. Don't get stuck, don't give up, keep trying new things or refining your craft.
