RPG Maker MZ! Can you port your project from MV? I did and let's see how! (LOTTA WORK!)
Hello, me again, your faithful MV game dev and designer! ^^ How have ya been? This video is about porting your project to MZ from MV. Is is worth the effort? Well, maybe, dunno. I would only port my project if it's gonna be a simple one, but I can't create simplicity, plus my 2 projects I've been sparsely presenting on my channel are already complex enough.
Shortly said: If you wanna port to MZ, all you need is:
1. port maps one by one, I showed how - most importantly create as many maps in your new MZ project as you MV project has and don't forget to create a COPY of your MV project. This map transfer if done wrong, can delete your map XD
As a little help, map porting starts at 18:00 in this video ^^
-- Driftwood Gaming also has a 5 mins video on that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIjRQSatQGw&list=PLJqhPy8h0DrHqGaboilW94uFilotU9JaC&index=73
Also check this video from SRDude that explains changes to MZ shortly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vzqoy7I0Kg
2. extend the number of switches, variables, common events, items, actors to how many you had.
3. rebuild your actors in same order, since you may have scripts targeting specific actor IDs.
4. recreate your tilesets one by one, extend the limit if you did in MV, as well as go back to setting each change you did to each individual tile :)
5. put back plugins in same order. also rearrange your parameters in them. Some plugins do work for MZ, which shows their script list is the same, or very similar ^^
Keep up the good work! This is touching just a bit though.
My final verdict is: I won't port my 2 projects because I create too much complexity I have to unfumble in MZ, some plugins won't work, so I won't wait till they are remade XD In my case, with the complexity I create there's too much work and time needed. Still, am gonna use MZ later on!
Will definitely start a new project in it, since scripts seem very much the same!
