Video taken at Runswick Bay Anchorage on a Wednesday 10th August
At around midday.
First time anchoring in this place. very well protected anchorage we loved every minute of it. We had some neighbours but not too many. 4 over nighters including ourselves. One was a Beveria, one motorboat and a smaller sailing vessel with a Dutch flag and another Bermudan sloop rig like ours. In the morning there was a beutifull yellow ketch come to anchore with us. I think they are a training vessel out of our home port hartlepool. They managed to beat us back to hartlepool but only by 10 minutes. We did wing on wind all the way back to hartlepool leaving at 9am arriving in marina at about 1/2pm.
More traffic in the day time but after all Runswick Bay is Named as Britain's best beach so its to be expected.
Anchorage is very deep and you can get quite close in its also huge could easily accommodate 30+ boats.
Best Part about this excursion was as soon as we dropped our anchor and set it in about 9-10 Dolphins in 3 pods came to see us and play with us and ultimately spent about 30 mins just messing around with us, doing tricks for us, flips, rolls, jumps, What a way to pop my dolphin cherry.
4 years of sailing and no dolphin until now!
I Recommend this anchorage 100%
This one is more good if you family or your wife as the protection is fabulous.
On land there are some boat ramps, boarding steps/ladders, A few caves,
About a mile of beach or more depending on the tide.
During the day the beach does fill up mind so its probably best to leave around 6pm for the extra special time with less people around.
There is a manned lifeguard/first aid station overlooking the beach.
Public Toilets, Cafe, Pub and Hotel.
