Scopophobia is a word which here means, "the fear of being observed or seen."


In our daily lives, we moderate and alter our behaviour to fit the environment we're in, and the eyes that view us. Life can feel like a performance, with those around us acting as the audience we never asked for, but we entertain them anyway. This begs the question: who are we when we are alone? When the prying eyes and expectations are shed, do we embrace freedom or do we shy away?


Scopophobia is an art/social-experiment based short film designed to investigate how we react to being observed and judged, compared to being free to act as ourselves. All actors in this film were not informed as to what they would be performing, and all responses to the prompt are authentic. Nothing has been re-shot, everything is as it occurred on the day.


*NOTE: All actors were informed as to the nature of the piece and what the social experiment was trying to demonstrate, yet the specific instructions for the piece were kept as vague as possible. This was to ensure that the actors felt safe to perform, while maintaining the element of surprise needed. Always make sure that those in your cast and crew feel safe, respected and heard during their work.
