But seriously, if you think someone is struggling with their mental health, unless they actually choose to confide in you, DO NOT PRESSURE THEM into tell you something that is THEIR CHOICE to voice aloud. No one has the right to know the mental status of another unless that person is doing actual harm to themself or others.

Forcing someone to tell you of their issues to make things easier for yourself in dealing with them is counterproductive and downright awful.
You don't need to walk on eggshells.
Just be a better person by being more compassionate, patient, and empathetic.
