Sales Halt Issued by GM for 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV
General Motors has recently issued a stop-sale order on the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV due to software-related issues. These issues, as reported, pertain to the vehicle's displays and the process of plugging in at Quick Charger locations. The move to halt sales comes in response to a series of software concerns that were identified and have affected a limited number of units.
The Chevrolet Blazer EV, which has been positioned as a key player in GM's electric vehicle lineup, has faced criticisms from several quarters. For instance, publications like Inside EVs and Edmunds encountered problems during their time with the vehicle. Edmunds reported a significant number of major faults, and Inside EVs had to end a weeklong trial in just 28 hours due to these issues. This led to a broader discussion among owners who faced similar problems.
In response to these challenges, GM has stated that they are working diligently to resolve these issues. Scott Bell, the Global Vice President of Chevrolet, acknowledged the software-related quality issues and emphasized customer satisfaction as a priority. Consequently, GM is taking a brief pause on new deliveries and temporarily suspending sales to focus on rectifying these problems. However, it's important to note that the software issue is not related to safety, nor is it connected to Ultium or Google Built-in systems.
Unfortunately, the required fix for these software issues cannot be delivered through an Over-The-Air (OTA) update. Therefore, affected owners will need to visit their local dealers to have the updated software installed.
The situation with the Blazer EV highlights some of the challenges auto manufacturers face in the transition to electric vehicles, and it underscores the importance of addressing both technical and customer service issues in this evolving market.
