Having put an end to Nobunaga at Honnoji, Mitsuhide was branded a traitor. From that point on, he worked tirelessly with Toshimitsu to conquer the whole land.

His first move was to reach out to the nobility to gain their support for his efforts, and send messengers to win over the neighboring forces.

Mitsuhide then sought alliances with forces across the land who had opposed Oda. He also suppressed the Oda Clan's retainers who continued to fight in the various regions.
