Our proposal is an act of mild protest - a call for
public awareness of the natural pollinators that
are increasingly absent from daily view, due to
habitat loss, pesticide use, and invasive species.
We will utilize San Jose’s Municipal Rose Garden,
a beloved landmark of unarguably non-native
species, to draw attention to San Jose’s native
pollinators and the plants that they need for
survival.

We will built a pollinator garden in augmented
reality that exists in the same physical space
as the Municipal Rose Garden. When viewed
through a mobile device, users will be able
to see native pollinators and their supportive
plants throughout the physical rose garden
environment. When a user taps on a pollinator
or a plant, they will be presented with a virtual
plaque describing the characteristics, needs,
and threats to the species.
