It's possible to save project files backwards BUT to a certain number of limited versions. You can only go from CC2015 to CC 2014, or from CC2014 to CC (12), or from CC (12) to CS6, etc.

You CANNOT go from CC15 to CS6 without needing to download and install every other single version of After Effects JUST to keep downgrading the file by one version at a time.
