Sayonara Sam's Town Arcade, Ueno - The Final Day (2018)
We take one last tour of indie arcade, Sam's Town in Ueno, Tokyo.
Located just off Ueno's iconic Ameyoko Street, Sam's Town was in operation since 2000 and was one of three remaining arcades in Ueno. Their final day of business was 28th February 2018.
A great hang out for gamers, Dissia, Dragonball and Tekken, speaking with the staff at Sam's Town indicated that they were still doing pretty good business daily, but that land price increases had forced the sudden closure. It wasn't too surprising as in recent years Ueno's Ameyoko street has just grown in opularity with tourists, making it difficult for indi arcades to stay afloat.
We had some real fun times here, played our first rounds of Taiko no Tetsujin in this very place. Lunch breaks at work would mean a pice of melon bread and gaming here.
Sad to see this place go, the staff were always great and professional. Much thanks to them all for keepin the wheels turning this long.
