These two knives are both made by Schrade. Since the company changed ownership over the past few years, the knives are made out of different places. The SCHF40L was made by Taylor Brands out of Taiwan while the SCHF52 was made by BTI Tools out of China.

The SCHF52 is made from 1095 carbon steel while the SCHF40L is made from 420J2 stainless steel. The SCHF40L has a sturdier molded sheath but the SCHF52 comes with a sharpening stone and ferro rod.
