Scooby-Doo Mystery — A Point-and-Click Adventure on the Sega Genesis?! (September 2020)
📅 Originally streamed live on Twitch in September 2020. 📅
This Year One video dives into a point-and-click adventure game on the Sega Genesis — yes, really. Originally streamed in July 2020, this is a 100% longplay of Scooby-Doo Mystery, a game that somehow manages to bring classic adventure gameplay to a system without a mouse or even a proper cursor. Believe it or not, it actually works pretty well!
Released in 1995, this Scooby-Doo game is visually inspired by LucasArts classics like Day of the Tentacle, with big, exaggerated animations and colorful cartoon backdrops. Players take control of Shaggy and Scooby, solving classic ghost-hunting mysteries with inventory puzzles, dialogue interactions, and plenty of cowardly hijinks. It’s not just a decent Scooby-Doo game; it’s a surprisingly solid console adventure game, which is a rare breed in itself.
Oh, and for astute viewers, you might just be able to pinpoint the exact moment I started developing COVID symptoms halfway through this stream. Now that’s classic 2020!
If you love classic adventure games, retro Scooby-Doo nostalgia, or just want to see how well a point-and-click works with a D-pad, hit like, drop a comment, and subscribe for more gaming oddities. Zoinks!
