Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Multiplayer Playthrough: Stage 5 Part 1
Part eight of a multiplayer playthrough of Scott Pilgrim vs the World, based on the comics by Bryan Lee O'Malley and movie by Universal Studios, by Ubisoft for the XBox 360. Scott Pilgrim (MacDaddyNook), Kim Pine (SunBurntKen) and Ramona Flowers (Duck) take on the world to defeat the League of Evil Exes.
The first part of Stage 5 is my personal favorite in the game. Although relatively short compared to other sections of the game, and even shorter counting the subspace door at the beginning that skips half the level, it's a pretty fun stage. The level takes place at a Halloween, or Day of the Dead in the comic, party in Julie's (the angry swearing girl who works at the coffee and record shop) apartment. The enemies of this level follow the theme in suit, literally as they wear costumes such as jack-o-lanterns and robot masks. The dinosaur and alien enemies from Stage 2 make a return as well.
Like any good party, the one in this level is full of party-goers including many of Scott's friends and shopkeepers from the game. Additionally, Big Bang Blitz, the lead character from the NES game The Clash at Demonhead (of which the band in the Scott Pilgrim series is named after) makes a cameo in this stage (he is the anime-looking one holding the ray gun). Along with Blitz, Tom Guycott, another character from the same game, also makes an appearance as the skull-headed enemies.
Toward the end of the room, a toaster-headed robot made by the Katayanagi twins (Kyle and Ken, Ramona's fifth and sixth evil ex boyfriends) will challenge players two the fight. The robot isn't particularly strong and can be defeated fairly easily.
After defeating the robot, players will head outside to the fire escape where they will catch of glimpse of Gideon Graves in the crowd. Players should keep an eye open as there is a hidden shop that sells the much needed life-replenishing food. After playing down a few more enemies, players will encounter a pair of giant fists that will destroy lower sections of the fire escape. Players must race up the stairs while avoiding enemies to reach the rooftop before falling to their doom.
On the rooftop, the owner of the giant hands, a giant building-sized robot, will attack players. To fight the robot, players avoid being crushed by its hands and then attack said hands until they explode, possibly a throwback to one of the more reoccurring types of boss fights. Occasionally, the robot will step into the background and rain missiles on players from above or, if one if its arms are destroyed, fire a giant laser in the center of the stage. After both arms have been destroyed, the twins will escape to their lair.
