NOTE 1: Subscriber Sar Jim correctly pointed out The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which contained a version of what I am proposing here. So it's not a wholly original idea after all (unsurprising, really). So do take a look at that piece of legislation when considering my ideas in this video.

NOTE 2: Apologies for the slight undertone of static to some of my audio on this one. I think the power cord on my mic was loose or something. Did my best to reduce it, but it's still there a bit.

The nuts and bolts of my proposal:

1. You must have proof that you have been in physically present in the country for at least 30 months as of the time of this announcement. Anyone having entered the country illegally any later than that does not qualify.

2. You must register your presence in the country with the government, and submit yourself to a full vetting procedure to verify your identity, place of origin, and residency in the United States.

3. You must not have been convicted of any Class-A Felonies while you have been in the United States, nor can you have committed any during the time of the ensuing grace period.

4. The grace period will last 3 years in which people can safely
reveal themselves without fear of deportation. Once registering, they must then complete all the same steps to become a US citizen as anyone else would to legally become a citizen. Some kind of deadline for completion of these things would need to be set upon being registered.
