Scuba Kidz - Commodore 64 - longplay
As usual i have to thank minotaurus both for this game longplay and for the following notes!
Budget price game, by Andrew Betts and music by Wally Beben (Hagar), who also composed C64 tetris soundtrack.
Latter levels are very difficult, since you have to understand how to play them correctly, so it is almost impossible to finish the game without having studied it.
Description of the game, taken directly from the manual:
One of the evil Sea Lords has kidnapped some of the Kidz and is holding them in an undersea chamber! As the best swimmer, you have been asked to save them. Swim through eight reefs, unlocking the Sea Lord's doors and fighting the fish with your bubble gun. Be careful, as some routes you may take will leave you high and dry!
Hints:
Items you can pick up are: AIR TANKS, BUBBLE GUN, DOUBLE BUBBLE, BUBBLE UP'N'DOWN, A CUNNING DISGUISE, KEYS, and FAST FLIPPERS.
You must have an air tank, you must also pick up all the keys, and don't waste any, for you will need all of them! Swimming to the surface (if you can) will replenish your air supply. Parts of the coral can and must be shot to get through them. If the timer runs out, all the doors will open, but you will lose all your keys. Avoid the mines, as you will lose lots of air if they explode. Kill fish, except for the angel fish (the one with the halo!), as touching this will up your air supply. Just before the end of the level, top up with air for your battle with the Nasty Shark - Shoot him several times to kill him, but don't let him bite you!
The game is cute, I really liked it as a child even though I never managed to finish it at the time.
As you go further and further you realize how frustrating this game can be.
Wrong paths, dead ends, traps that force you to restart the level, weird oxygen points and on top of all those damned keys!! You have to finish the level before time runs out (represented by two spheres at the bottom of the screen, which slowly disappear) otherwise all the keys will be lost and you'll be in big troubles for the next levels!
Actually the game was poorly designed in terms of key layout, in fact to finish the game you have to use a glitch, with keys set near the air part (see directly in the video, at 11:11).
Unfortunately, due to emulator use, there will be some minor graphic glitches, sorry!
This video is part of the videogame endings database, whose goal is to catalogue and create the world's largest archive of videogame endings! (what an humble and not ambitious project :D)
