Seadragon Plays: NHL Stanley Cup - Jets at Whalers
0It's the first edition of my Sunday Showcase. Each Sunday, I show off a different game that I have in my collection of games that I have.
This week, it's NHL Stanley Cup on the Super Nintendo. This game was one I remember well from my childhood as one of the few games that I had a nearly all night session playing. It was that good of a game.
The big thing was the Mode 7 graphics. For the younger people here (and I might know who you are), Mode 7 was the effect that allowed scaling of a different level at that time.
This game has the NHL license but not the NHLPA license. That meant that the teams were used but not the players, so you get the jersey numbers... but not the names.
Today, it's the Winnipeg Jets (the original version, not the new one) at the Hartford Whalers. See, when this game came out, it had the expansion teams at that time (Florida and Anaheim) but not the relocated teams yet (Like Phoenix, Colorado and Carolina).
