In this episode, we unbox and rate our January 2022 Video Games Monthly package, which included 4 SEALED Xbox One & PS4 Games.

It's a new year, and that means time for new games. One of the easiest ways to get video games delivered right to your front door is through a service called Video Games Monthly. For $35 and up You can get anywhere between 3 to 10 retro games sent to your home, and you don't even have to put your pants on. Well, your neighbors might want you to put your pants on when you go to the mailbox but that's something different. This month's box was definitely very hit and miss for me.

What we got:
Banjo Kazooie 2 - Japanese N64 ($5)
Lethal Enforcers - Sega Genesis ($7)
South Park The Stick of Truth - Xbox One ($19)
The Lego Movie Video Game - Xbox One ($14)
Rocket Arena Mythic Edition - Playstation 4 ($6)
Left Alive - Playstation 4 ($9)
Total Value - $60

As I normally do, I actually opened up both cartridge base games to inspect the pins to see how clean they were and to touch them up if need be. I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the cases themselves, they are extremely clean which left me very optimistic. The labels looked super crispy too, although Lethal Enforcers definitely showed some signs of age and fading. Inside the cartridges, both were in terrific shape, probably the best I've ever gotten from Video Games Monthly for a single month. I grabbed a 1up Cleaning Card and the cleaning solution (which is simply 91% isopropyl alcohol) & cleaned the pins.

The disc-based games were definitely interesting this month as every single one of them was sealed. That tells me they found a lot somewhere, be it at a Best Buy, Walmart, or 5 Below, where they got a killer deal on all of these games. One of the bummers for me is the fact that, for the second consecutive month, I received a copy of Rocket Arena. However, this was on the PS4 where last month was for the Xbox One. I actually ended up trading the copy I got last month into Live Action Games in Champaign, Il so I didn't add it to my library. I guess regardless of whether I keep the games or not I need to start doing that.

The two winners for me this month were definitely South Park The Stick of Truth and the Japanese version of Banjo Kazooie 2. I have the US version of Banjo Kazooie 2, and it is a fantastic game. Rare was definitely on point during this console generation, producing banger after banger of excellent games. The Original Banjo Kazooie is one of my favorite games on the platform, and I know I've spent some time with Banjo Tooie, I just haven't really deep dove into it. I might do so now.

I am not a fan of role-playing games at all, never have been, never will be. South Park The Stick of Truth might be one of the rare RPGs that I actually sit down and play. I actually own the Fractured But Whole for the Switch, it's actually still sealed and I've yet to play it. I want to, I generally enjoy the comedy of Matt Stone and Trey Parker, I've just yet to do it.

This may be the last Video Games Monthly box that I do for a bit, I wanted to do it for a few months right after we moved into the new house, and now I have other projects I have to sink money into. I may just back down to the $35 tier, but honestly, I think I'm just going to hold off for a bit. It's a good service for those looking to fill holes of common games in their collections, and this month, again, I got good value for what I paid. I'm just not sure that I'm the right person for the blind draw concept.
