Season: A letter to the future PS5 EXCLUSIVE Intro & Gameplay 4K60 HDR
The latest non-AAA title Sony has been touting as a PlayStation console exclusive, Season: A letter to the future places you in control of a young woman who is breaking with tradition and heading out on her own to experience the world outside her town's walls. To prepare, her mother concocts a special 'talisman' called an identity pendant to protect her mind's health. From what? Well, in this future there are mineral crystals that have some tie to past memories... it's all very confusing at this point... but the story is that these crystals make you trip balls if you get too close to them. Our main girl here seems to not lose her cool though. Either she's a partier, or this identity pendant dulled their effect.

This video serves to provide an overview of the story and it's simple but oddly captivating game mechanics. You take pictures and capture sound to fill in a scrapbook. Each area has its own page IN this scrapbook with an accompanying meter. Each added item (photo, recording) to this page fills the meter, and when completely full, a message or cutscene plays, further filling you in on the main characters feelings or unknown information.
Season: A Letter to the Future is a very interesting game that, despite its MANY flaws, keeps me wanting more. It's such a stark contradiction to the GO, GO, GO, "LOUD NOISES" of Call of Duty, even new (and amazing games) like Dead Space and HI-FI Rush are all about MOVING, ACTION, EXCITEMENT.
Season: A Letter to the Future is about savoring the moment, enjoying your sense of bewilderment.
The Greyday Early Takeaway is this:
Pros: Gorgeous visuals and art direction. Great sound. Superb use of haptics. Interesting story.
Cons: Visual and environmental glitches. TERRIBLE dialogue writing for ancillary characters. Annoying need to progress dialogue manually. Dialogue is chopped into nonsensically small and awkward segments at times. Bad acting (our character is actually as good as the writing allows her to be.)
I know the cons list looks more significant than the pros, but I will finish Season: A Letter to the Future because for some reason I feel compelled to do so.
