Secret of Mana Randomizer (v1.36) Rando Mode Speedrun Practice Run (1:33:24; NEW PB!)
I've been out of practice doing these as the last one I did was back in 2020, several patches ago. But this was a pretty good run considering everything that happens during this run. Even managed to beat my old PB of 1:39 during this practice run, and this was a rather good seed in general.
Flags used: A lot of quality of life flags: Beak Shield Disabled (Beaks are pain in the ass bosses, ESPECIALLY pre-magic), Starter Gear ON, No Stamina required for running, Multi Buy OFF (better for doing money glitch), Fast Transitions (saves a fair bit of time overall throughout the run), 3x EXP (not necessarily for more HP and stats, but for more MP on Sprite at the end). Everything else left at default settings.
I included the Metal Mantis Skip as well as the Aegagropilon skip this time around, both can save upwards of 2 1/2 to 3 minutes depending on what boss shows up in those locations, and what enemies show up in Northtown Castle after Metal Mantis. Aegagropilon skip is not necessarily difficult to pull off, but rather how long it takes the boss to kill off your party. I've rolled many seeds and typically what shows up in that spot is either a dragon of some sort, either demon wall, Dark Lich or Aegagropilon itself. Worst case scenario is Wall Face because it is really weak to damage your party even when your armor is unequipped. Any dragon or Dark Lich would be the next best case; you can manipulate the dragons to do either their tail swipe or their Breath Wing attack by standing under them. By triggering the death warp flag at Ice Palace beforehand, instead of getting game over, we get deathwarped back to the Ice Palace and after savewarping into Potos, effectively skip the fight.
The elementals that showed up were pretty decent overall - I managed to get both Shade and Dryad, the former is a must for Mana Beast (and other late-game bosses), the latter is good for doing good damage, sleeping enemies or for Wall spell against bosses like Dread Slime. Undine first, while not the greatest elemental in this run, does have its uses, mainly Freeze being a higher spell power than something like Gem Missile/Fireball/Airblast and for any water weak bosses that show up. Like that Axe Beak @ Hexas. Perfect time to have Undine. Lumina, is probably the worst element to have as it isn't very useful in general, except for maybe Lucid Barrier against Mana Beast.
Definetly need to improve some late game portions of the run, namely Grand Palace skip and better execution of later boss fights. Speaking of the Grand Palace skip, that has ended my run more times than I can count as some certain enemies that show up in there can definetly annoy you while performing the glitches. The Metal Crawler is a great example; this thing is very aggressive and I simply had to kill it before it could potentially kill the invisible boy (and any other characters for that matter). On the trip to the Dopplegangers, I think what I might start doing is unequipping girl and boy after crossing the gap midway through; this way I both won't have to deal with the others getting slowed down by enemies and they'll already be ghosts by the time I get to the dopplegangers.
All in all, a pretty good run. This time is beatable, but it's going to be rather difficult. That's why these are practice runs, after all.
