In this episode, we recap our visit to the 2023 Southeast Game Exchange in Greenville South Carolina. We met up with friends, sold a lot of things, and also got some pretty cool pickups. Let's get started.

One convention that will always hold a dear place in my heart for multiple reasons is the Southeast Game Exchange. In 2019 I was supposed to be heading to the show to host a panel when the morning we were going to leave my father had a massive heart attack and passed away. We were clearly detoured because of it, but we stopped off on the way back, and I will never forget the kindness, generosity, and support that this community gave me in my family at this event.

2023 was filled with much happier times, as we got to meet up with many old friends, The immortal John Hancock, Jay from Square Pegs, Owazrim, Retro Rick, the Pixel Game Squad, and many more. We also had the opportunity to set up a booth and sell at the event as well, something I was excited to bring my 3D-printed items to for the first time. Finally, I know there's always good stuff at this show so I was hopeful I could knock three items off of my list that I was looking for. I was looking for Sonic 2 for the Sega Master System, tempest 2000 for the Atari Jaguar, and Alien versus Predator, also for the Jaguar.

Friday was strictly a travel day, and I got to the show right after 7:00 a.m. Saturday to go ahead and start setting up. I quickly realized I had far too much stuff for the booth, so I had to decide what and when to display certain items. Since I was running behind I did not have a chance to walk the floor at all on Saturday, but thankfully Jay from Square Pegs did me a solid. I gave him my list of games that I was looking for and he actually spotted one of them. He said he saw a boxed copy of Tempest 2000 for the Jaguar for $80, and I proceeded to hand him $80 cash. I asked him to see if the vendor would take 70, and he proceeded to ask for me. Unfortunately, the vendor was stuck at his price, but I now have a complete inbox Tempest 2000 for the Jaguar.

After a very solid sales day on Saturday, we went out to a local barbecue restaurant for an after-party. There I was able to hang out with good friends and catch up with others. My booth was right next to Tyler from My Retro Life and I was able to have dinner with him as well. Having lost both of my parents I will say his videos hit me probably a little differently than many of you, even now just typing that gets me a little choked up. But we were able to have some great conversations, he played guess that music that I was playing in my booth, and overall it was a wonderful experience to get to know him.

Sunday morning started a little bit later, which meant I could get a little bit more sleep. Things were definitely busier on Saturday than Sunday, but I was able to walk the floor a little bit before the show officially opened. I had seen quite a few things that interested me, although I will say prices seemed a little bit higher than in previous years. I managed to pick up four other games, all of which were at good prices.

Two things I forgot to show in the video were gifts from our friend Owazrim. He had some custom game sleeves made for the Sega Master System with his logo and everything on it, and they look terrific. He also knows I am a huge baseball fan, professional baseball not American minor league baseball. But he did give me a hat from the Macon Bacon, which is perhaps the second-best name of a baseball team next to the Milwaukee Brewers.

I want to thank Austin and all of the organizers for putting on yet another amazing Southeast Game exchange. We're already making plans for 2024 which will be held the weekend after the 4th of July. They're expanding to a larger part of the hall which should mean more vendors, more panels, more free play area, and more fun.
