SEGA Classics Collection - PS2 - Fantasy Zone - Arcade Mode Full Playthrough
This is a 2003 remake of the 80s arcade shooter. It's a horizontal shmup, where you fly in either direction and the screen wraps around. You need to destroy everything in each level, including the boss, there are seven stages and a boss rush. It has cartoon style graphics, which might qualify this as a "cute 'em up".
I'd finished the arcade version before, on another compilation, but it's my first time beating this remake. I don't play this type of game very often, in fact this is the first full 2D shooter playthrough I've ever done on this channel, so you'll need to excuse my rusty skills. I do OK, but the final boss stumped me for a while, I forgot how to beat him and he's pretty tough if you don't know the strategy.
There is a challenge mode, where you can play levels to unlock extra perks, like bonus stages and weapons. I did play that for a bit before starting arcade mode, and unlocked the auto-fire option, which is used in this playthrough.
There is an extended mode called "normal" mode, that features the extra stages you unlock in challenge mode. I'll be showing that in another video.
