During the 16-bit era, there were battles upon battles. From Blast Processing on the Genesis and Mega Drive to Mode 7 Graphics on the SNES, Sega CD versus, well, we all know what didn't happen with the Nintendo CD add-on. One of the things about both systems that people argued about was which controller was superior. While I think most will agree the 6 Button Sega Controller was superior to the 3 button one, what about comparing the 6 Button Genesis controller vs the Super Nintendo one? Both are awesome, but is one better than the other?

Genesis/Mega Drive:
The Genesis 6 button controller is an improvement over the original in every way. The controller is slightly smaller, which I prefer myself. The D-Pad still feels good, plus the A/B/C/ and X/Y/Z buttons all are placed well and super-responsive. It is well-balanced and laid out, and provides more buttons than the original did for better control. I do like that the A/B/C and X/Y/Z buttons are concave/convex to be easier to feel your way around as you play.

Super Nintendo/Super Famicom
The Super Nintendo Controller took the NES design and definitely addressed many people's complaints while keeping its strengths. The NES D-Pad was excellent, and the SNES' was as good. 2 additional face buttons were added, plus the L & R shoulder buttons for additional inputs and control. The Super Famicom buttons were all the same shape, but different colors, where the SNES controller had 2 shades of purple for the buttons but mixed concave and convex shapes.

My Favorite
Super Nintendo, all the way. I still would love to see an SNES controller button shape with the Super Famicom button colors, but I prefer Nintendo's option to Sega's. I think the shape fits my hand better, I like the D-Pad design more, and the shoulder buttons are easier for me to use consistently compared to the X and C buttons on the Genesis controllers. Both are good, and both are usable, but to me, the Super Nintendo Controller is the superior option.
