The Nomad with the stock speaker has the stock lcd screen cut off and is currently on hold for a new 3.5 inch screen replacement mod. This is why you are not seeing any visual gameplay on screen but can still hear it.

So the speaker allows for louder sound and to my surprise, improved the quality of the sound.
