Sega Saturn Console Unboxing in 2022 - Retro Gaming Next To a Fireplace! Gameplay
In this video we're unboxing a Sega Saturn console in 2022! It's Christmas time and Jack @PalatechGaming decided to take his old Sega Saturn out of the closet after 24 years to undust it, connect it to a modern TV and play some games for us next to his beautiful fireplace!
Jack is playing Tomb Raider and Die hard Trilogy but sadly he couldn't find his Doom's disc, so he only showed us Doom's Box and its manual instead, along with his Sega Saturn console & peripherals.
Jack was 11 years old back in December 1997, when his dad bought him a Sega Saturn with a second controller and a Lightgun, not knowing that the console would be soon discontinued.
Thankfully, the Sega Saturn is nowadays one of the coolest and most popular retro video game consoles to have and Jack is now the happy owner of a great retro gaming system that has been preserved in excellent condition!
The Sega Saturn is a home video game console developed by Sega and released on November 22, 1994, in Japan, May 11, 1995, in North America, and July 8, 1995, in Europe.
Part of the fifth generation of video game consoles, it was the successor to the successful Sega Genesis. The Saturn has a dual-CPU architecture and eight processors. Its games are in CD-ROM format, and its game library contains several ports of arcade games as well as original games.
Development of the Saturn began in 1992, the same year Sega's groundbreaking 3D Model 1 arcade hardware debuted. The Saturn was designed around a new CPU from Japanese electronics company Hitachi. Sega added another video display processor in early 1994 to better compete with Sony's forthcoming PlayStation.
The Saturn was initially successful in Japan but failed to sell in large numbers in the United States after its surprise May 1995 launch, four months before its scheduled release date. After the debut of the Nintendo 64 in late 1996, the Saturn rapidly lost market share in the U.S., where it was discontinued in 1998. Having sold 9.26 million units worldwide, the Saturn was succeeded in 1998 by the Dreamcast.
Although the Saturn is remembered for several well-regarded games, including Nights into Dreams, the Panzer Dragoon series, and the Virtua Fighter series, its reputation is mixed due to its complex hardware design and limited third-party support. Sega's management has been criticized for its decisions during the system's development and discontinuation.
While the Saturn ended up losing the popularity contest to both Sony and Nintendo, Nights into Dreams, the Virtua Fighter and Panzer Dragoon series are all examples of exclusive titles that made the console a fan favorite.
Even today, despite the widespread availability of sequels and re-releases on other formats, the Sega Saturn is still a worthwhile investment for those who appreciate the unique gameplay styles of the companies that supported it.
Hardened loyalists continue to reminisce about the console that brought forth games like Burning Rangers, Guardian Heroes, Dragon Force and Panzer Dragoon Saga, while the Saturn has perhaps the strongest line-up of 2D shooters and fighting games in console history!
Sega Saturn, a true Retro Legend!
