Note about the Selection Sphere: The game gives you a prompt that the final battle is about to take place, that is the point of no return.
The selection sphere is also the final place you need to explore to get 100 percent exploration in the game, you just need to map up to the save crystal here and that should be it. Your reward for filling out the map is an Adventure Gear that slowly fills up your Extra gauge.
Note about the ending: There is one more dungeon after this, but it requires you have over 200 reputation. Ive seen 150 to 200 is needed, but id get 200 just to be safe. Be sure to buy/upgrade/craft whatever you need before fighting this boss. The true final dungeon locks out shops.
