Selena Gomez discusses how Steve Martin and Martin Short became her 'best pals'
1Selena Gomez was nervous when she appeared on Hulu's Only Murders in the Building with Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Gomez, 30, confessed in an interview with The Wrap that she was worried about being lonely on set because she had only met them briefly through Zoom.
"I remember leaving L.A. to go and shoot the first season, and I was worried about being lonely because I'd be on set and most of the time I'd be with Steve and Marty, who I'd only met briefly on Zoom," she told the site.
She was shocked, however, to discover that they were the sweetest. "And they were the sweetest, and I was aware of their work — obviously not to the extent that I am now, but they were wonderful."
"And the moment I got on set, they made me feel included," she concluded. They inquired about my character and welcomed my feedback. They eventually basically took me under their wing, picked on me, made me laugh, and gave me wise words when I needed them."
"All of my fear of feeling alone went away," Gomez said, "and now they're my guys." I was just seeing footage of them and I started crying because I was thinking, 'Those are my guys.' Some of my closest pals are above 70."
When questioned if Martin and Short were 'intimidated' by her presence, Gomez said that she was "nowhere near as cool" as them.
"I'm doing the best I can with what I'm doing." But they are icons, and I don't think they were scared. "All they ever said to me was, 'We thought you were going to be annoying and high-maintenance.'"
She said, "So I guess that means I'm not those things if they like working with me."
