Sensitive Satarists & Haunted Humour feat. Brody Stevens | Savage Snowflake Podcast #45 #RIPBrody
EDIT (Feb 22nd 2019 - upon hearing the news of Brody's passing)
This video was Brody Stevens’ last ever podcast appearance. We talked about his deep love of baseball, his joy at being able to spread comedy to the world & why the Comedy Store was his spiritual home. Once we finished a funny hour and a half of recording we had a cup of tea and he told me how deeply hard he was finding dealing with internet trolls. I shared my own ways of battling depression and we had a hike planned to clear our minds of negative thoughts and fill our lungs with the Los Angeles air he loved so much. We’ll never get to have that hike. He couldn’t understand that despite focusing his entire being on making other people happy, there were people in the world he had never met who took time out of their lives to show him hatred. And for what? His successes? Following his dreams? Battling his depressing on the daily to find enough strength to share beautiful moments of empathy with strangers on and off stage? Whatever the reason, those people know who they are and must face the reasons that caused them to show this brilliant and deeply emotionally adept man negativity when all he ever tried to give to the world was love and laughter. I urge those people to use Brody’s suicide as a wake up call that we are ALL broken in some way or another and working on yourself to dispel demons is more productive that internalising that anger and spewing it at un-deserving entities you think are beyond emotional pain simply because they work in entertainment. Let Brody’s death give life to YOUR healing. Sadly that’s probably what he would want even now he has moved on from this world.
Next time you think your internet trolling is ‘just a bit of fun’ take a step back and consider that the celebrity you’re going after has the same sensitive soul & hopeful heart we all share. This man was kind, funny & broken. I’m not just sad at his passing, I’m not just deeply affected by it because on more than one occasion I’ve considered doing what he did for the same reasons, I’m livid at the senseless loss of such a great man and talented comedian because he simply felt too much, in a world that is trying so hard not to feel anything for each other anymore.
Be kind or be quiet.
Be hopeful and sensitive.
Be a bit more Brody.
RIP brother.
