Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 - Chapter 1 All Collectible Locations
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a 2024 action-adventure game developed by Ninja Theory and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game serves as the sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (2017) and is set in 9th century Iceland, drawing inspiration from Norse mythology and culture.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was created with a higher budget and a larger team when compared with its predecessor. The gameplay is similar to the previous 2017 installment. It features combo-based combat, as well as puzzles. The gameplay and visuals have been revamped from the previous game: faster-paced combat, and improved visuals built on a new Unreal Engine, while retaining the psychological horror and focus on Senua's struggle with psychosis.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was released for Windows and Xbox Series X/S on 21 May 2024. The game received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its art direction, visuals and sound design, though some noted pacing issues and a combat system favoring spectacle over depth.
Gameplay
The player is engaging in combat with an enemy.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a third-person action-adventure game. It carries over the concepts and gameplay elements of its predecessor, including permadeath, utilizing puzzles and runes to advance, and an examination of Senua's mental state. A new fighting system will also be included in the game.[1][2] The sequel introduces a broader array of enemies, each of whom has different attack patterns and tactics.[3] The game features dynamic weather systems and realistic physics, affecting both combat and exploration. Players will navigate treacherous terrain, from slippery ice-covered slopes to storm-lashed coastlines.[4]
The combat in Hellblade II is more dynamic than its predecessor, featuring a revamped system emphasizing fluidity and strategy. Senua's expanded arsenal of moves allows for various combat styles and tactics, including a time-slowing mechanic for executing quick strikes, adding depth to encounters. Enemy encounters in the sequel boast a greater variety, each with unique attack patterns and weaknesses. The focus is on faster, more intense battles, requiring players to adapt quickly to different enemy types and utilize Senua's combat skills effectively to survive.[5]
Exploration is a significant aspect of gameplay, with players navigating beautifully rendered landscapes and uncovering hidden collectibles that enrich the game's lore, such as hidden faces and Lorestangir posts. Puzzles in Hellblade II are seamlessly integrated into the environment, designed to challenge players and often requiring unique interactions with the game world, such as deciphering runes or manipulating elements to progress.[6][7]
The game also features psychological horror elements.[8] Players will once again grapple with Senua's psychosis, and the voices that accompany Senua on her journey serve both as a guide and a challenge.[8][9] The audio-visual design enhances the gameplay experience, with binaural audio providing immersion and reacting to player actions.[10]
Plot
The creative director of Ninja Theory, Tameem Antoniades, drew inspiration from the natural landscapes of Iceland while shaping both the setting and narrative of Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is set in 10th century Iceland, centering on the warrior Senua as she seeks vengeance against the Viking raiders who devastated her homeland, Orkney.[11] The events unfold shortly after her journey to Helheim in the first game, with Senua now feeling empowered by her psychosis rather than encumbered by it.[12]
After surviving a shipwreck during a severe storm, Senua battles both inner demons and bloodthirsty monsters in the human realm of Midgard. The game features stunning Nordic-inspired locations, intense combat encounters, and a captivating narrative that delves into Senua's struggles and determination. The visual design, audio effects, and environmental puzzles contribute to the immersive experience, making it a Viking-worthy adventure for players.
The story picks up where the first game left off, with Senua vowing to stop the Northmen's raids on her people. She allows herself to be captured by slavers to assault their stronghold from within. The game focuses on Senua's promise to protect her community, shifting the narrative to the relationships she forms and the people she encounters during her quest.
