1-2-3 means you can catch it. 4-5-6 you can't
If you roll a 4-5-6, 3 times in a row, you can lock in a future Pokémon
Whenever you complete a gym, you can reroll the Pokémon you couldn't catch before
Your most-used Pokémon get retired for the rest of the marathon
Legendries & Shiny's are exempt from rolling
