Serious Sam 3 - Unused Gnaar Melee Finisher
211This melee finisher is supposed to be usable only when the SBC Cannon is equipped. References to this melee attack in the player melee selection script were either removed or never implemented, so it had to be written back in for it to work.
When activating this melee attack, the player and the Gnaar plays the Gnaar_CannonBlast animation, with the Gnaar switching to the CannonballHug animation upon being launched at an angle and travels approximately 25 meters backward before exploding upon collision. The damage done and blast radius are controlled by the values set in the player's cannonball projectile parameters, which are 25 range damage and 16 meters respectively. To demonstrate this, a Werebull is placed exactly 25 meters behind the Gnaar and a Rocketeer is placed 4/8/12/16 meters to the side of the Werebull. A camera entity is also set up in this self-made test level to show the melee attack from different angles.
The cannonball that appears isn't actually a projectile entity, but rather a model attachment set in the Gnaar's model. Enemies that are directly hit by the launched Gnaar also do not receive the direct damage values (mix 450, max 750) set in the player's cannonball projectile parameters.
Exactly one cannonball ammo is consumed when the Gnaar is launched. The player cannot perform this melee attack without any cannonball ammo even if the Cannon is currently being equipped because the player will automatically switch to another weapon when the last cannonball is fired. If the Cannon has "Can be used without ammo" enabled in its weapon parameters and the player attempts to melee the Gnaar without any cannonball ammo, the Gnaar_CannonBlast animation will be played but the Gnaar won't be launched and the Gnaar's AI will stop working, only staying in place and rotating towards the player it's looking at.
