Serious Sam: Fusion - 7Smoke Tennis 2018: Blue Edition 5/5 (Serious Difficulty)
Let's finish this! So here are the last 2 levels, and imo they're the best the mappack has to offer.
The ninth level gives you access to a green SS2 Plasma Rifle with entirely too many particle effects, as well as a Railgun that isn't hitscan and has a scope that doesn't work, but that's super ammo efficient and does a crap ton of damage. Also I just really like the way this level looks, overall it's my favorite of the mappack.
The tenth/final level is also pretty neat. It starts a bit slow with some basic platforming and combat in small enclosed spaces before opening up to a big canyon with loads of enemies to kill. You also get to use the funny Ghost Buster weapon a lot in this level, and even though it's pretty strong I can't help but feel there's a distinct lack of a BFG type weapon. I found The Grand Cathedral style fight before the final boss fun, if not a bit repetitive, and the same can be said for the boss.
Final boss has a lot of health and the health will regenerate a few times before you can actually kill him. I really like the boss's custom attacks, but the only thing I didn't like is how ammo didn't respawn. Sure you have enough ammo to kill the boss, but it just feels a bit odd, especially seeing as like I said his health is guaranteed to regenerate a couple of times before you can actually kill it.
Overall I thought this mappack was pretty good. A bit too much dialogue for sure and I think the story, while simple, tries really hard to be as complex and confusing as possible without any reason other than to sound cool. For the most part, the levels are beautiful to look at, and the last few levels for sure gave me Crystal Impact vibes before that mappack was ever even a thing.
It's a bit hard to compare to Red Edition, seeing as Red goes for the whole futuristic sci-fi setting whereas this is about magic and dimension hopping, but if I had to pick one I think I'd go with Blue. To me this has better weapons, pacing, slightly more interesting characters (Murray was an absolute bro), and levels generally had better flow. I definitely think Red was cool, especially liked the Sundowner/BFG, but overall I felt this was a more cohesive experience.
Thanks again for watching and as always, stay Serious!
