It's over. It's finally over. And the last level was... more of the same. Long, boring hallways with nothing but floods of enemies. Followed by another very frustrating gimmick room. Followed by a giant open field with lots of enemies. And then another fun boss fight. So at least the game left on a high, but once more having to grind through the crap was a killer. Really, the game seems best suited for co-op with infinite ammo, and then prepare for a massive bloodbath. THAT would be entertaining. As it stands though, the game is just frustration. I just don't think the rest of the game is really suited for the level design they chose to go with. A more traditional FPS style with these enemies and weapons - other than the canon maybe - would have worked amazingly well. Instead, they wanted a horde shooter. But the enemies are a bit too much for a horde shooter. The weapons are mostly appropriate, if ammo counts are too low, and the shotgun basically useless.

In the end, I cannot recommend The Second Encounter. I just can't. I didn't have enough fun. Far more frustration than not. And it's 100% on the levels. All the elements are there to make a game that really works. Except how the game is ultimately designed. And that's a real shame. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
