Shadow Warrior 2, which released in 2016, is the sequel to the 2013 reboot of the classic shooter from 1997. It was quite the departure from the gameplay of the last two games, as it is a looter shooter, with many of the missions taking place in semi-procedurally generated levels, and it also takes the socket system from Diablo II to insert weapons with gems that give them certain upgrades and elemental properties. In addition to this, the linear level progression of the last game was replaced with a design that involves a hub area from which you teleport to the various levels in the game. It's not all bad, with the gunplay being greatly improved from the 2013 reboot, and the visuals and weapon models are stunning. However, the loot system is pretty boring and terrible, and most of the looter shooter elements seem unnecessary. With that being said, as long as you pay attention to enemy weaknesses to certain elements, and carry weapons that each have their own elemental properties, there is a lot of fun to be had with this game.
