Shadow's Always Been A Clone - Shadow The Hedgehog, PT 2 || Sonic Subtember #23 || Sandwichard
0I played this back around when it came out and 20 years of hindsight tell me that I should have been playing something else. This is the edgiest game I've ever seen. He cocks an MP5 like a shotgun. You'll be asking yourself "Where IS that Damn Fourth Chaos Emerald?" all day. Shadow the Hedgehog may have been a cultural touchstone, but this gameplay leaves something to be desired. Of note, this is the worst grinding, homing attack, and spindash in the series, probably to focus on the "gunplay." The missions generally take the entire stage length, but you'll have to loop back on yourself for half an hour to find the final Artificial Chaos or to set off five (5) huge alien bombs with no remote detonator for some reason. With no map of any kind to consult, either you are meticulous in clearing every room or find the one perfect path to take from the start. It's almost like Sonic Team puts stage exploration back in, but in the most annoying way on purpose. Shadow is reduced to doing odd jobs and errands for his friends (and the floating squidman Black Doom) on the way to collecting all the Chaos Emeralds. He wasn't much of a character, but this is the third game in a row that they've rehashed the "I'm an amnesiac, I can't remember anything, who is Maria" plotline and even THEN sometimes he's a clone or robot or something if you take the neutral path so he was never even that original Shadow to begin with, so what was this all for?
