Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (PC): Main Street Part 1
Player: Denny
Mode: Hardcore
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is such an awesome platformer that came out last December, which is a sequel of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, because it's a gorgeous, fun platformer that allows Shantae to transform into different types of animals that have different abilities, which is much like Shantae: Risky's Revenge, such as the monkey climbing walls, the elephant ramming through crates, and the mermaid shooting bubbles. Shantae can of course whip her ponytail to attack her enemies, and she can also upgrade her hair by purchasing Silky Creams and Shampoos, as well as purchasing her sub-abilites like Fireball, Pike Balls, Storm Puff, and Bubble Shield. The gameplay is pretty challenging when I get to play in Hardcore Mode, but it's still not too hard, thanks to Heart Holders and other upgrades. The level designs are solid without having so much unforgiving death traps, and while the graphics look really cartoonish and distinctive, it looks really nice and gorgeous. The soundtrack is great as well, thanks to the Jake Kaufman, who is a great composer. Best of all, I love Shantae's voice, but then again, Cristina Vee is my favorite voice actress, and I really wish that she could fully voice the whole game with various girls, including Risky Boots. She also sang "Dance Through The Danger", which is the theme song for this game, and I honestly really like it as well. I always love the Shantae series!
"Late one night, the half-genie Shantae is awoken by the sound of a voice. Following it outside, she discovers a cave, where a messenger from the Genie Realm warns her of an impending evil that only she can defeat, but disappears before it can elaborate further. Shantae suddenly awakens, revealing the experience to have been a dream. She goes to visit her Uncle Mimic, who is working on a new invention, the Dynamo, which will keep Scuttle Town constantly powered and safe from attack. However, the pirate Risky Boots begins a siege on Scuttle Town, with one of her Tinkerbat minions stealing Mimic's blueprints. Shantae gives chase and defeats Risky, retrieving the blueprints, but Scuttlebutt once again fires her from her position as the town's guardian genie due to Risky's escape and the damage incurred. Mimic reveals that several components are still needed to complete the Dynamo, so Shantae has began searching across Sequin Land for the remaining components."
