SHC 2020: Sonic 2 Return to Westside Island
1Welcome back to my showcase of the Sonic Hacking Contest of 2020.
This time we play through Sonic 2: Return to Westside Island, a hack of Sonic 2 which change the level design pallets.
Here is the info from the SHC page:
"Sonic 2: Return to Westside Island is a ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
It originally began development as a sequel to the ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog titled Sonic the Hedgehog: Westside Island, released in 2009. The ROM hack itself has been restarted numerous times in development (and was even been put on hiatus for many years), but has recently undergone enough development that I think a version can be released to the public. However, this may be the first and only official release of Sonic 2: Return to Westside Island, as I no longer have any desire or interest in working on it.
This hack's primary focus is on level layout changes to the majority of the original game. Most of the Act 1 stages have been extended to accomodate a larger horizontal size akin to Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and are filled with more branching paths and secrets than the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
There's also the return of the infamous D.A. Garden's desaturated palettes (Patent Pending).
