It really feels like I'm missing something big here. I just can't tell what it is. It seems like every task takes a whole lot of instructions in this language, and I'm so squeezed for space that almost nothing can be made to happen in any single microcontroller. Maybe it's parallelism? Maybe I need to just give up on the idea of saving costs if I want to have satisfactory power usage? I did realize afterward that I could slx on the DX300 input instead of polling every cycle, so that'll probably help a lot.
