Shiro's Plasmarider! G-Surfers - Custom Livery Experiment
1Nothing fancy, just a little experiment that got out of hand! A little while back I was shown how to go about extracting and replacing textures in PS2 games, one thing led to another and I find myself fiddling with bits and bobs in my childhood racing games. If only child me of the past could see me now! I'd take this as just a proof of concept. I'm sure I'll find more interesting uses for this ability in the future... 😼
It was also a good excuse to play one of my favourite racers, I only intended on doing a couple of races, but I ended up doing the entire 1st championship!
How is this done?:
Put simply. in more recent versions of PCSX2 you can ask the program to extract the textures currently being used. After finding what you're after (some items may have multiple textures) Open the textures in your preferred editing program and have at it! Make sure to save your edited texture as a flat PNG file in the replacements folder with the exact same name as the extracted texture. Then tell it to load replacement textures, and you're good to go!
