6The Kitabatake clan during the events of the Chosokabe ascension were only notable due to their owning two notable provinces that provided a natural blockade to any who did not control the roads. Their older Daimyo who was more friendly to the Chosokabe refused numerous bribes, beggings and threatenings from the Saito and allied clans to join the war against the Chosokabe reasoning that, "if so many of you are struggling to defeat one clan. How am I suppose to make the difference?" However upon his questionable demise, his son whose ambitions and loyalties to the Saito clan were obvious from the outset. Using a very weak excuse of clan safety when a ninja from the Chosokabe was traveling through on his way to a Saito target. The Kitabatake went on the offensive and thus doomed themselves to face the same wrath as did the rest of Japan who would stand against the might of the Chosokabe
