How much should we trust medical authority?

Nearly one in five patients in the EU claimed to have experienced a serious medical error in hospital and one in ten, say they've been prescribed the wrong medication. Are these figures much higher than they should be? And as a result, should we trust our doctors today?

Pallavi Bradshaw is Policy Lead at the Medical Protection Soceity, the world’s leading protection organisation for medical, dental and healthcare professionals.

David Healy is a professor of psychiatry at Bangor University and author of bestselling books including The Antidepressent Era and The Creation of Psychopharmacology.

Jacob Stegenga is a University Lecturer in philosophy of science. Author of Medical Nihilism, Stegenga has shown the bias, malleability and money of medical research leaves us with little reason to be confident about medical interventions.
