Description from author:
Just an announcement that I've started work on my third game for the ZX Spectrum 48K. A sequel to my first game, "Noon 30 Shovel Duck (Featuring Dollar Bill)". This sequel aims to be part platformer, part puzzler, part old-school arcade-adventure.
An early Proof of concept showing some of the moves and one of the core 'levels'.
Of course, the first Shovel Duck didn't actually have a huge amount of digging going on (despite there being two shovels ... you did find both of them right? One was deliberately easier to find than the other). I always mock up and make proof of concepts for levels and things I'm aiming to do before building the actual game. No point in imagining a level that is a hybrid of Space Panic and Mr Driller if you can't deliver something close to what you're imagining...
So, I've mocked up and created my simple POC and am happy it's going to work; which is good, I'm planning for it to be a large part of the game so it not working would really see me going back to the drawing board!
I am envisioning this game being a mix of "old school arcade adventure" (think Dizzy, or Skooldaze or Everyone's a Wally), part platformer (similar to the first Shovel Duck game) with hopefully a few surprises dotted around .. and maybe the odd easter egg.
Plotwise - it'll be something like Bill has a goldmine, he had better go dig it. But generally, TBC.
This builds heavily on the experiences I've had from my first couple of games ... and hopefully will be a lot of fun. I'm trying to make games younger me (and older me) would like to play, and so far I think I've succeeded.
I don't have a planned release data for this yet; it's still early days. I expect I should have a demo / alpha version available in a couple of months and then we'll see how we go... It would be nice to get it complete for May (as I'm thinking of ideas for Games 4, 5, 6 and beyond... )
