The modern remake of the classic Sid Meier's Pirates. An open sea, ships to plunder, pirates to duel, and booty to be had. It's a bit of a sandbox game, you can go where you like and do as you will. Trading, raiding passing ships, defeating notorious pirates, seeking buried treasure and even dancing for some bloody reason. It reminds me of the freedom granted by games like Elite.

It's an excellent remake and very faithful to the spirit and mechanics of the original. The presentation is a little cheesy and a bit too safe for my taste. Would have been nice to see it a bit more gritty, but maybe that would have taken away from the charm. The improvements in the interface are the best part though. What felt clunky in the previous versions is now smooth and intuitive. This makes it among the best of the pseudo retro games.
