Space Quest V: The Next Mutation is the 5th entry into the wildly popular Space Quest series from Sierra On-Line, published in 1993, a much anticipated follow-up to the plot laid out in the time-traveling saga of Space Quest IV. Unlike its predecessors, Scott Murphy, one of the Two Guys from Andromeda, was not present for its development, having transferred over to Sierra's subsidiary Dynamix, leaving Mark Crowe, the other Guy, to take the design lead. This shows through in the stylistic and narrative choices of the game, which focus much more on lampooning Star Trek and other popular space franchises, and developing on the Roger Wilco character's personality and interactions with his crew - where the other games framed Roger more as a "silent protagonist" reacting to, and struggling to survive within, a hostile and alien universe.
