My third time playing this archetype on the channel, and I think this is the tightest, most quintessential build! The concept is simple: ramp until we are 1-2 mana ahead of where we would otherwise be, then play chonky overbodied green threats, using our excess mana to protect them and disrupt our opponents with counters. In other versions, we included more expensive cards to try to play them early with our ramp, but this version is honed in on the control plan. We'll rely exclusively on cheap powerful green beaters like Werewolf Pack Leader, Steel Leaf Champion and Old Growth Troll to execute the beatings. The hope is they will be enough to triumph over most early game battlefields as long as we can keep them alive. With our curve topping out at 3 and with the extra mana we ramp into, sticking and protecting a cheap beefy threat should be achievable. It's a super fun concept that I've tried to make work in every form of MtG I've ever played. Can it work in a brutal Pioneer 2024 meta? We'll put it through the test of an MtGO league and find out! Will this be the last we ever see of Simic ramp control on this channel? Probably for a while, but I already have new ideas!
